The 2020 Golden Pin Design Award (GPDA) and Golden Pin Concept Design Award (GPCDA) are now accepting submissions. From now until Thursday, July 9, the Golden Pin Design Award will accept submissions of works that have already been commercialized and sold on the market. For its part, the Golden Pin Concept Design Award is offering grand prize award monies totaling NT$ 1.2 million for innovative design ideas. In addition, the award organizers have teamed up with Acer Inc. this year to present the Special Annual Award—ConceptD Award, the winner of which will take home products from the Acer ConceptD series worth a value of NT$ 300,000. The deadline for submissions is July 15.
Golden Pin Design Award
This year, the Golden Pin Design Award celebrates its 40th anniversary. Since the award began accepting global submissions in 2014, the number of entries has skyrocketed. A wide range of world-famous brands and design companies now join the competition each year, including Germany’s Zeiss Optics, Yamaha Motors Taiwan, Sharp Technologies, the BenQ Corporation, Beijing’s LKK Tech, and Nanjing’s Hanqingtang Design.
Every year, the organizer invites professionals from all over the world to come to Taiwan for selection. It has gathered many design experts from the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Italy, Sweden, Belgium, the United States, Japan, Taiwan, etc. over the years, including Martin Darbyshire (CEO of tangerine — UK), Mårten Claesson (Co-founder of Cleasson Koivisto Rune — Sweden), Luisa Bocchietto (Former-president of World Design Organization — Italy), Naoto Fukasawa (Founder of Naoto Fukasawa Design — Japan), Oki Sato (Chief designer of nendo — Japan), Kashiwa Sato (Creative Director of SAMURAI Inc. — Japan), Ad van Berlo (Founder of VanBerlo — Netherlands), Tony Chi (Founder of tonychi — USA) and more.
In keeping with global trends, the Golden Pin Design Award has been using its forums and awards ceremonies as a platform to call attention to social responsibility and environmental sustainability. The addition of this Special Annual Award further encourages independent designers and large corporations alike to employ design thinking in response to the challenges of our time. The 2020 Golden Pin Design Award will continue with this tradition and embrace eco-friendly and sustainable works created by designers and companies around the world.
The 2020 Golden Pin Design Award is now accepting submissions worldwide until Thursday, July 9. Works that have already been commercialized and sold on the market are eligible to enter and may be submitted by either the manufacturer or the design team. An early registration discount is available on and before Thursday, April 30.
Golden Pin Concept Design Award
The 2020 Golden Pin Concept Design Award is open to works that have not been manufactured or sold on the market, were not commissioned by a client, and will not be executed during the current year. There is no restriction on entrants’ nationality. Students, designers, and companies may enter individually or as a team. The submission deadline is Wednesday, July 15. No registration fee is required.
