The annual Golden Pin Design Award 2019 Forum returns this December 5, staging talks from 4 international design luminaries at Songshan Cultural and Creative Park in Taipei. The theme of this year’s forum is ‘Design & Sustainability’, following on from last year’s forum that was themed ‘Design & Social Responsibility’. Hosted by the prominent TVBS news anchor Lulu Hsia, the opening remarks will be given by Chi-Yi Chang, followed by the 4 speakers – Huat Lim, Haruna Yamada and Hirokazu Kobayashi, Luisa Bocchietto – and finally guest panelist Tony Chi. Audience members can listen in English, Chinese, or Japanese with live translation throughout the talks.

Haruna Yamada and Hirokazu Kobayashi – Artist and Designer at SPREAD (Japan)
Haruna Yamada and Hirokazu Kobayashi are artist and designer at multi award-winning design firm SPREAD, and served on the Golden Pin Design Award 2019 Final Selection jury. Both born in Tokyo and graduated from Nagaoka Institute of Design, this duo aptly combines specialisms in landscape design and graphic design. Their talk will introduce SPREAD’s latest projects and design philosophy under the title, “Think the Past, Create the Future”.
Huat Lim – Managing Director of zlgdesign (Malaysia)
Managing director of zlgdesign in Malaysia, Huat Lim has worked with the likes of Zaha Hadid and Ron Herron, and previously spoke at the Golden Pin Design Award 2019 Salon in Kuala Lumpur. Having graduated from the prestigious AA School of Architecture in London, he co-founded zlgdesign with Susanne Zeidler in 1992, and went on to design several landmark projects including National Library Singapore. His talk is titled “Beyond Sustainability: Biophilia and Productive Architecture”.
Luisa Bocchietto – Former-President of the World Design Organization (Italy)
Architect and industrial design expert, Luisa Bocchietto was president of the World Design Organization from 2017 to 2019, and served on the Golden Pin Design Award 2019 Final Selection jury. Born in Italy and having graduated from the school of architecture at Politecnico in Milano, Bocchietto was also president of the Industrial Design Association in Italy from 2008 to 2014. Her talk, “Design for humanity” sows together thoughts on human centered design and sustainability.
Tony Chi – Founder of tonychi (USA)
Award-winning designer, Tony Chi is the illustrious Taiwanese-American founder of NYC interior design firm tonychi, who also served on the Golden Pin Design Award 2019 Final Selection jury. Chi’s design harnesses the intangible allure of time and place, and his wide-ranging portfolio includes iconic names like the Rosewood London, Intercontinental Geneva, Andaz Tokyo, Park Hyatt Shanghai, Rosewood Hong Kong and New York’s Carlyle Hotel. He will join the panel discussion after the 4 speakers.
