The Golden Pin Design Award 2018 Design Mark winners list is revealed today. This year, a grand total of 697 entries from designers in Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Canada, Poland, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Macau, receive the coveted Design Mark. They now progress into the Final Selection judging round to decide which of them will win 2018 Best Design.
The overseas judging in Shijiazhuang, Shenzhen, and Shanghai took place in August, and yesterday’s event in Taipei completed the Secondary Selection judging round. This year, the award received a record-breaking 2,932 entries from 1,385 companies in 21 countries and regions, signaling the award’s growing influence. After the Preliminary Selection judging round in early July, a total of 1,991 entries were admitted to the Secondary Selection round, and competition was fierce. Since the Golden Pin Design Award’s international transition in 2014, the entry rules have been relaxed for the first time this year, allowing design teams from all around the globe to enter.
Year-on-year, the Golden Pin Design Award organizers strive to improve the rigor and fairness of the judging system. For the first time, this year the three judging stages each bring together a different lineup of judges, and the judges are each assigned to a single category according to their professional experience. The number of judges in the Taipei event increased to 16, which was twice the number of judges compared to last year. This year’s Secondary Selection jury members in Taipei included Gina Hsu (Design Director at Donghai Hospital Design Studio), Lee Wei Lang (Assistant Professor at National Taiwan University of Arts), LIN PIN-SI, ROGER (Chief Adviser at NOVA Design), SUN, CHUNG-SHIH (Chief Designer Director at GEARLAB Co., Ltd.), Quake Hsu (co-founder of zeczec), Wang Ching Fu (Creative Designer at PINMO design studio), Ho, chia-hsing (Designer at Timonium lake design), Akibo Li (Curator at akibo works), Chan Wing Kei (Creative Director at Leslie Chan Design Co., Ltd.), YU FENG (Founder of IF OFFICE), Effie Huang (Design Director at EHS ArchiLab), Johnny Chiu (Founder of J.C. Architecture), Chung-Han Tang (Design Director at Design Apartment (DA Design Apartment CO.Ltd), Grace Wang (President of QUE SERA SERA), Ping Chu (Founder of Ripplemaker Foundation), and Jay Wu (Founder and President of FUJIN TREE CULTURAL CREATIVE & TECHNOLOGY CO.,LTD.).
The Golden Pin Design Award 2018 Final Selection judging round will be held on September 20 at Songshan Cultural and Creative Park.
