Call for Entries: Don’t Miss the Golden Pin Design Award 2018 Early Bird Deadline
The Golden Pin Design Award 2018 Call for Entries opened in early March. The executive organizer, Taiwan Design Center, reports that many excellent entries have been received from companies in Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, Macau, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Turkey, Hungary, and USA. The Call for Entries closes on June 28th, and entries received before April 30th get a special early bird price — don’t miss this opportunity!

The Home of Staffs in Head Office of SINA CORPORATION in Beijing, China

– Designed by Vinck Vai and Shammy Fung at DRAWING DESIGN CONSULTANT CO., LTD, (China)
– Category: Spatial Design (C-02 Office Space)

In Beijing’s Zhongguancun Science Park, Sina’s new work place reimagines the traditional Chinese working culture. A boundary-free, 3700 square-meter space accommodating six-thousand members of staff. It has a yoga room, gymnasium, indoor running track, basketball court, supermarket, coffee shop, bookstore, launderette, beauty salon, crèche, Internet cafe, gaming room, and even a rage room come relaxation space.

The Affairs

– Designed by The Affairs Medium Ltd. (Taiwan)
– Category: Communication Design (B-02 Publications)

Founded by the Editor-in-chief of The Big Issue Taiwan, ‘The Affairs’ is a monthly arts, culture, and lifestyle newspaper, first published in June 2017. It features licensed content from The New York Times, and The Guardian, as well as Taiwanese writers renowned in their respective areas. The newspaper is published both in print and online (www.theaffairs.com).

MusicCloth®

– Designed by JJ Chuan Yi Xin and Chiu Mee Lee at rehyphen® (Singapore)
– Category: Integration Design (D-07 Solution Design)

Rehyphen® pioneers an up-cycling initiative whereby discarded cassette tapes are collected from the local community in an effort to reduce and eliminate e-waste, while giving the product a new life. The tapes are weaved into a tapestry called MusicCloth®. The concept has already received recognition from Material ConneXion®, University of Pennsylvania, and Red Dot 21.

SWISH

– Designed by Karim Rashid for PAN AIR ELECTRIC CO., LTD. (Taiwan)
– Category: Product Design (A-03 Home Appliances)

Designed by one of the most flamboyant industrial designers of the twenty-first century, ‘SWISH’ is a a ceiling fan that makes a statement. The seamless design features a curved, undulating, single blade, which dips up and down, with an LED light incorporated at the bottom. It is both energy saving and extremely noise free, while looking distinctly original among its competitors in the marketplace.

SURIMACCA

– Designed by Shingo Nakamura at JAM Inc. (Japan)
– Category: Product Design (A-07 Office and Stationery Products)

‘SURIMACCA’ is an innovative silkscreen printing frame, which can be personalized in three different shapes and sizes, easily stretched for a quality print, and taken apart for convenient storage. Screens, inks and materials are offered at the JAM Inc. online shop. Its purpose is to make silkscreen screen printing so easy that beginners can try it at home without an instructor.

The Taste of Tainan A-Sha

– Designed by PiliWu-Design Studio (Taiwan)
– Category: Communication Design (B-03 Packaging Design)

This takeaway bento box is inspired by traditional Taiwanese window grilles. The large, medium, and small-sized hexagonal dividers allow consumers to mix and match dishes into an appetizing meal to-go from the classic Taiwanese restaurant, A-Sha, established in 1940. Hidden down a small alley in Tainan, southern Taiwan, the historic eatery is renowned for its sticky rice with mangrove crab and charcoal-grilled mullet roe.


This year, for the first time, the Golden Pin Design Award is open to companies registered anywhere in the world. Entries are welcomed into four categories — Product Design, Communication Design, Spatial Design, and Integration Design. The new category, Integration Design, focuses on professional curation, service design, and social design. The deadline for entries is June 28th, and the early bird period ends on April 30th.
