Another Prestigious International Recognition for Taiwan’s Design Excellence: TDC is Awarded Ladislav Sutnar Prize 2018

The Ladislav Sutnar Prize 2018 of the University of West Bohemia is awarded to individuals or institutions for outstanding performance in the field of applied arts and design. Since its establishment in 2012, Taiwan Design Center (TDC) has been the first laureate from Asia. Other internationally renowned laureates include Pratt Institute (USA), Museum of Modern Art (USA), Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum (USA), and Art Institute of Chicago (USA).

TDC has gained recognition from the jury of Ladislav Sutnar Prize for demonstrating Taiwan’s design excellence during international exchanges. This remarkable achievement proved that TDC has built an outstanding platform for connecting design between Taiwan and the world in the wave of globalization. 

As commented in the Ladislav Sutnar Prize, “TDC’s main missions are to elevate original and creative capabilities of Taiwanese designers, promote international design exchanges, strengthen Taiwan’s industrial competitiveness through design, and help enterprises build up their own brands in the global economic market.” Dr. Song Tong-Zheng, the CED of Taiwan Design Center, addressed in the award presentation ceremony that it is hoped that by receiving this award, Taiwan’s design can start to shine through more international exchanges and make the world better.

In addition, Taiwan Design Center is currently exhibiting “100yrs of Czech & Slovak Graphic Design,” including one of Ladislav Sutnar’s groundbreaking publications, “Visual Design in Action.” This book documented Sutnar’s influential work of his American period between 1939 and 1976.
