45 Design Mark Winners Emerge from the Golden Pin Concept Design Award 2018 Secondary Selection
The Golden Pin Concept Design Award 2018 announces a total of 45 exceptional Design Mark winning entries. Today’s Taipei judging event took place at Taiwan Design Museum, and the Design Mark winners’ list will be revealed on August 27. The winning entries came from designers in Taiwan, China, South Korea, and the UK, all of whom are now in the running to win the 2018 Best Design.
The Taipei judging event was led by a panel of five esteemed Taiwanese design luminaries on August 24, who each gave comments on the Secondary Selection judging process. Among them, creative director of the award-winning Taiwanese motion design studio Bito, Keng-Ming Liu highlighted the trend of localization in the Design Mark winners. He pointed out local issues, life, and industry as key factors driving the design concepts, and praised the integrity of the selected entries. Meanwhile, founder of bod design corp., David Wang referenced the trend in design concepts that attempt to solve social and environmental issues. He welcomes more design concepts attending to the world’s problems, but stresses the importance of boldness and innovation for future entrants.

The overseas Secondary Selection judging event was held in Shanghai on August 11 in partnership with Shanghai Creative Industry Center. The complete jury list from the two judging events held in Taipei and Shanghai includes David Wang (Founder of bod design corp.), Keng-Ming Liu (Creative Director of Bito), Chi-mei Chang (Honorary President of Taiwan Graphic Design Association), Shu Chang Kung (President of Chinese Society of Interior Designers), Tahan Lin (CEO of backer-founder), Chan Wing Kei (Creative Director of Leslie Chan Design Co., Ltd.), FAN SHIZHONG (Chairman and Creative Director of Hunan Fanshizhong Industrial Design Co., Ltd.), Grace Wang (President of QUE SERA SERA), Hongjie Ruan (Creative Director of C_Futures), Johnny Chiu (Founder of J.C. Architecture), and LIN PIN-SI, ROGER (Chief Advisor of NOVA Design).

This year, the Golden Pin Concept Design Award received a record-breaking 4,640 entries from designers in 23 countries and regions. Among them, just 366 passed through the Preliminary Selection judging, and after the rigorous Secondary Selection judging, a total of 45 Design Mark winners have been selected to receive the 2018 Design Mark certificate, as well as the right to adorn their winning works with the coveted Design Mark. This year, the Golden Pin Concept Design Award is collaborating with crowdfunding consultant company Backer-Founder, which offers crowdfunding training to all of the 2018 Design Mark winners. The workshop includes advise on how to deliver a successful pitch, implement fund raising activities, followup promotion. Additionally, the three Best Design winners will also receive tailored, one-on-one crowdfunding services, working directly with the consultancy on their projects, and paving the way to successfully bringing their design concepts into reality.

The countdown to the Final Selection judging on September 21 has officially begun. The Best Design winners will be announced at the Grand Ceremony, to be held on November 29. The Best Design winners will receive the coveted Golden Pin Concept Design Award trophy, along with the 2018 Best Design certificate, and a cash prize in excess of US$13,000.
